Comfort…

The Momentary Thoughts from a Satiated Mind is a sacred space where Spirit speaks before the fruit ever shows. Where whispers of heaven plant themselves in voice notes and morning commutes and friendly WhatsApp messages. Where prayer calls turn into healing sessions!  Oh, and the thought, she’s sometimes that unexpected guest—showing up barefoot, bold, and right on time… even if I’m in yesterday’s sweats and not emotionally ready for company 😅

A week or so before my birthday, on a random Tuesday afternoon drive from work, I looked up and—boom—there it was: a rainbow stretched across the sky like God personally signed His autograph.  Later that night, I stepped out under a shimmering, star-studded full moon, and something in my spirit whispered, Change is coming.” (One thing about God—He’ll send signs.  And He does not care if you’re in sweats and a bonnet. 😉)

A few days later, I got news about a reorganization at work. Cue the dramatic soundtrack in a movie.

The very next morning, my brother Kundayi sent me a message about comfort.  And when we started talking about life and my current experience, he threw my own words right back at me! “Sis, YOU are the one who always says: God has a plan.  Trust the process.  Walk in your faith.”  (You know someone really loves you when they quote you to yourself.)

Then, a couple days later, he sent me this little gem—

And Phweeeww!  It hit like a Holy Ghost slap: “comfort,” “slow death,” “rotting.”

It stung because I suddenly realized where parts of me were dying… quietly… politely… while I called it “resting.”  I thought I was choosing peace, but I was really choosing stuck.

I saw how comfort was working against my growth—like a sneaky little ninja in fuzzy slippers.  Because the truth is, for years I held a core belief: I’m not good enough.

It was familiar.

Predictable.

And familiarity can make you play small—even while your soul is screaming for more.

I can’t even begin to tell you how holding this core belief has caused conflamaration (not even sure it’s a real word but stay with me) in my life…LOL

As the spiritual student I am, I started dissecting this word: comfort.

First, I broke the word into two visible parts: com(e) and fort.  When I asked Dr. Google the meaning of “fort” he said “A fort is a strong building or a place with a wall or fence around it where soldiers can stay and be safe from the enemy.”

So, I discerned from this that comfort can be like a place we retreat to in order to feel safe—from our own inner fears (the enemy = the inner me).  It can become a wall I build around myself because I’m afraid to step out, pursue, and conquer the dreams within me.  I digress!!  Here’s what also unfolded in me as I kept marinating on this word—and maybe it’ll help you too 😉

  1. Comfort Is Not Peace — It’s Familiarity

When I say “I’m comfortable,” what I really mean is:

  • I know this.

  • I can predict this.

  • And I don’t have to stretch.

Comfort keeps the ego happy.  Ego loves survival—but has zero interest in growth.

But my soul? She likes expansion, expression, evolution, sparkle, territory, and glow-ups.

Ego says,

“Stay.”

Soul says, “Let’s go.”

  1. Comfort’s Job Is to Maintain the Status Quo

Comfort does things like:

  • Repeats routines

  • Rejects risk

  • Picks familiar over fulfilling

A mind raised with limitation would rather stay safely miserable than boldly expanding.

So “comfort” often becomes stagnation dressed up as peace. If you feel stuck, look for where you’re comfortable…Your escape route might be hiding right there.

  1. Dreams Require an Identity Upgrade

Dreams don’t just ask me to do something different. They ask me to become someone different.

Someone who:

  • Drops old beliefs

  • Expands self-image

  • Walks into uncertainty with courage and confidence

  • BELIEVES she is more than enough

Comfort says: “Stay who you are.”

Dreams say: “Become who you are called to be.”

  1. Comfort Feeds the Lower Self

Comfort speaks in:

  • Procrastination

  • “Later…”

  • “Not yet…”

  • “What if I fail?”

That's the voice of fear.

But my dreams speak in:
I AM called
I AM capable
I AM growing
I AM becoming
I AM serving

I AM trusting

That voice? That’s my true self.

Comfort is the tug-of-war between Fear Self vs Becoming Self.

  1. The Illusion of Comfort

Comfort feels good at first… until it doesn’t. Eventually it creates:

  • Restlessness

  • Frustration

  • Spiritual suffocation

  • Quiet sadness

  • That “something is missing” feeling

That’s your soul clearing its throat like: Ahem… sweetheart… we were made for more!!

When comfort stops feeling peaceful and starts feeling empty, your soul is waking up.

  1. Why Dreams Feel Scary

Dreams demand:

  • Trust instead of certainty

  • Courage instead of comfort

  • Expansion instead of repetition

And yes, newness feels like danger to the mind… until we retrain it.

This reminded me of Paul’s words:

“Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. Our light distress is producing for us an eternal weight of glory…”— 2 Corinthians 4:16-17

So now it’s your turn.

If you’ve been entertaining “comfort”…

If you’ve been calling stagnation “peace”…

If you feel that subtle tug of something more…

Your soul might be getting louder than your fear.

And that is a GOOD sign.

Your dream is calling.

Your purpose is moving.

Your spirit is stretching.

Step into the dream. Move with purpose!!

Your soul already knows the way.

🍃 Food for the Soul:

“Verily the lust for comfort murders the passion of the soul, and then walks grinning in the funeral.”
―Khalil Gibran, The Prophet
